Getting to the clinic from the New Orleans Airport
Most of the time we don't have the resources to make airport runs to pick up arriving volunteers. Those of us who are local volunteers
cringe at the thought of this blight on our Southern Hospitality, but
it's the reality and we hope you understand. We encourage you to
think of the added cost, or the inconvenience, as part of your service to our patients. What we can do is give you suggestions and prices for
public and for-hire transportation. If you have extenuating
circumstances, please discuss this with us.

For about $40, you can hire a taxi to clinic or to CampAlgiers. For less
than $2, and a couple of hours, you can ride the public buses
(depending upon your arrival time).

Public Bus Fares and Route Information
From the airport, catch the Jefferson Transit (JET) (http://www.jeffersontransit.org/default.htm), Airport (E2) bus. It operates 7 days a week on 10 to 20 minute intervals with limited
service on Sundays (Sunday buses will run every 65 - 75 minutes) and
costs $1.10. The end of the Airport (E2) route is just inside the New
Orleans city limits at Tulane and Carrollton. From there you need to transfer to the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) bus
39-Tulane . Currently, RTA buses are FREE, as FEMA is picking up the
tab. Take the RTA/Tulane bus toward downtown (the driver of the
Jet bus will tell you where to wait) to the corner of Tulane & Loyola
where you will transfer to the 101-Algiers Loop bus (again, ask the
driver where to get off and where to stand to wait for the next bus).
For the RTA schedules go to http://www.norta.com It may take
awhile, but you can't beat the price.

Driving Directions
Please print out the maps and driving directions and keep them with
you. If you have a problem, or get lost (it's easy to do in New Orleans,
especially as many street signs are still missing), call 504-717-6561.

www.mapquest.com, yahoomaps, RandMcNally etc. can give you a
map for every step of these drives.

Getting Around
Buses in New Orleans are free now, but the bus from the airport (in Kenner, LA) to downtown New Orleans costs about $2. There is a free
ferry between New Orleans dowtown and Algiers between 6 am - 8:30 pm every 30 mins. Crossing the Mississippi River in a ferry boat is not something you want to miss in your lifetime.

The Greyhound Bus Station in New Orleans is operating.
We have some bicycles, and there is a fun walking path along the
levee by the Mississippi River close to us.
