Julia Meltzer is a media artist and director of Clockshop, a non-profit art organization in Los Angeles. For the past sixteen years she has produced documentaries and media art projects on subjects ranging from police abuse in Los Angeles to the bureaucracy of secrecy. She has taught at Hampshire College and University of California at Irvine. She received her BA from Brown University and her MFA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is a 2007 recipient of an Art Matters grant and Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant, a 2004 recipient of a Rockefeller Media Arts Fellowship and was a Senior Fulbright Fellow in Damascus, Syria in 2005–6.

As a former resident of New Orleans, I have been watching, carefully, the recovery efforts. I have attempted to donate money to organizations with the greatest impact. When I read the article about Common Ground Health Clinic in the New York Times, I was immediately inspired to go to their website and make a donation. I hope that others will take time to learn about this organization that is helping to fill a significan void in this struggling city.
